Every sea flows into some ocean. So does the Mediterranean sea. The Mediterranean has about ten seas, from the Alboran sea which merges with the Atlantic on the west, to the Black sea on the east. The Ionian sea is the deepest, the sea of Azov is the shallowest… The Adriatic sea is the northernmost part of the Mediterranean. Within it, there is one even smaller – a sea of Murter. We are sailing within and around this sea at the Off Basic Programe.
The Murter sea is small but it can be very challenging. It’s windy. Bura (bora) and jugo (scirocco) are blowing most often, and in summer – moderate maestral (mistral). Towards the high sea, it is bounded by Kornati National Park, to the south, it borders with Šibenik archipelago, and further north there is an island Žut. It is separated from the mainland by the island Murter.
The goal of the basic program is to encourage the beginner’s desire for sailing and living at sea. Participants will not only learn the fundamentals of sailing, but also gain practical experience in handling a sailboat, understanding wind and weather conditions, and navigating safely. The program emphasizes teamwork, safety, and developing confidence on the sea.
Participants are going to learn how to read and use charts, identify landmarks, basic anchoring, manuvering under sails, reefing the sails, directions of sailing, sailing in the course, essential maritime rules, giving them a solid foundation for future sailing adventures. By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of sailing as both a skill and a way of life.
